Convert PDF to Word

Get an editable DOCX from a PDF, ready to change in Word or Google Docs.

or drop them here

Processed on your device. Nothing is uploaded.

Convert PDF to Word and get an editable DOCX file you can open in Microsoft Word, Google Docs, LibreOffice or Pages. The converter rebuilds the text with its paragraphs and headings, and reads scanned pages with OCR, so you can fix a typo, update a date or reuse a section without retyping the whole document.

Your PDF is processed inside your browser, not on a remote server. That’s a real difference from most PDF to Word converters, which upload the file first. Contracts, CVs and financial statements stay on your own device throughout.

It’s free, with no sign-up, no watermark in the Word file and no daily limit on conversions. You can convert several PDFs in one batch, and each DOCX is ready to edit as soon as it downloads.

How to use PDF to Word

  1. Add your PDF

Drop the PDF you want to edit onto the page, or pick it from your files. You can add several PDFs at once.

  2. Choose page breaks

Keep Start each PDF page on a new page ticked to match the original pagination, or untick it for one continuous document that’s easier to edit. If the PDF is a scan, pick the language it’s written in.

  3. Click Convert to Word

Press Convert to Word. Each PDF becomes its own DOCX file.

  4. Download and edit

Save the .docx file and open it in Word, Google Docs or any word processor.

How accurate is the PDF to DOCX conversion?

For text-based documents such as letters, reports, essays and simple contracts, the result is clean and ready to edit. Text, paragraph breaks and headings are rebuilt as real Word paragraphs and heading styles, not as dozens of floating text boxes.

Complex layouts are simplified. Multi-column newsletters, magazine-style designs and fillable forms come out as a single flowing column, and some positioning is lost. Tables are not rebuilt as Word tables: each row becomes a line of text with tabs between the columns. The aim is an editable document rather than a pixel-perfect copy, so check the layout before you send it on.

Convert PDF to Word without Microsoft Word or Acrobat

You don’t need Office or an Adobe subscription to make the conversion. Any modern browser on Windows, Mac, Linux, a Chromebook or a phone will do. The DOCX file opens free in Google Docs, LibreOffice Writer and Apple Pages.

Recent versions of Word can open PDFs directly too, using File > Open, and Google Docs can do something similar when you open a PDF from Drive. Both send or store the file in their own systems, while this tool keeps it local.

Scanned PDFs and image-only pages

A scanned PDF is really a set of photos of paper, with no text layer behind them. The converter reads those pages with OCR (optical character recognition) on your own device and rebuilds them as editable paragraphs and headings. Choose the document’s language under Language of scanned pages before converting.

OCR is good but not perfect. Clean, straight scans of printed text come out well; faint photocopies, handwriting and skewed phone photos produce mistakes, so read the result through. Photos and logos on a scanned page are not carried over, and a page where no text can be read is placed in the Word file as a picture.

To check whether a PDF is a scan, try selecting text in your reader. If you can highlight individual words, it has a text layer and converts directly. If the whole page selects as one picture, it’s a scan.

Questions people ask

Is this PDF to Word converter free?

Yes. Converting is free, with no account, no watermark and no limit on how many files you convert.

Is it safe to convert a PDF to Word here?

Yes. The PDF is converted in your browser and never uploaded, so the document stays on your device.

How do I convert PDF to Word without losing formatting?

Text, paragraphs and headings are kept, and Start each PDF page on a new page preserves the page breaks. Complex layouts such as columns and forms are simplified, so some manual tidying may be needed.

Can I convert a scanned PDF to editable Word?

Yes. Scanned pages are read with OCR in the language you choose and become editable text. Check the result for misread characters, especially on faint or skewed scans.

Are tables kept?

The text in them is, but not the grid: each table row becomes a line with tabs between the columns. Select those lines in Word and use Convert Text to Table to rebuild it.

Can I open the converted file in Google Docs?

Yes. Upload the DOCX to Google Drive and open it with Google Docs, or open it in LibreOffice or Pages.

Can I convert a password-protected PDF?

Not while it’s locked. Remove the password with the Unlock PDF tool first, then convert the unlocked copy.

Does it work on iPhone and Android?

Yes. Open this page in your mobile browser, choose the PDF and tap Convert to Word. The DOCX opens in the Word or Google Docs app.
